Alright ladies! This post is for you! Today, I’m going to talk about
That awful time of the month that we dread…well, at least I did. The severe cramping, discomfort, mess, expense… EVERYTHING! Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t love it, but I dislike it a lot less.
It all started nearly a year ago when I first heard about an alternative option to manage my period. Now, I never realized I had another option outside of the typically expensive and messy pads and tampons. Yuck!
First, a little background information:
(and we’re getting personal, so hang on!)
I had the pleasure of enduring a nightmare week every month:
– severe cramping, to the point that I could barely leave my bed and
– a couple days of high blood volume that would make me question my probability of survival that would turn into a several day trickle that just wouldn’t end.
Ah! What fun! . . . . . . . NOT!
Over the years, I had tried many things to treat my period issues. Birth control pills and shots, dietary changes, over-the-counter pain medications… I had gotten to the point where I figured it was just the way I was and what I had to endure – which made me start to seriously consider surgery.
I know many women have trouble in one way or another, so I wanted to share my journey as I tried something new – something more natural. And the results I have had.
A year ago, I saw an article about this very topic and the potentially harmful effects that using tampons can have. Not to mention the landfill issues with throwing out so many. It made me stop and think. We have been working on getting more natural. We make all our own natural cleaning supplies and are constantly working on reducing the chemicals we bring into our home in our food and products. But I never gave buying tampons a thought, not to the chemicals, perfumes, dyes, or materials. It was a must-have item and I sure spent a lot on it.
After that article, I started paying a little more attention in the feminine care isle. But there weren’t a lot of options in tampons, just different scents, brands, shapes, etc. And I wasn’t ready to go to pads. They didn’t seem any better – same chemicals, perfumes, dyes and materials.
So what to do? INTERNET SEARCH!
That was when I discovered I did have an alternative. The Diva Cup. I did a little more research on it and read many reviews. People seemed to love it! I was sold and quickly bought one myself.
I have now been using The Diva Cup for nearly 6 months and LOVE it! I have had less discomfort and period issues, feel significantly healthier in that region, and never have to worry about leakage.
(Note: it does take a little practice to get it in correctly, so until you figure out what works for you, you may want to wear a pantyliner.)
I empty it in the morning and evening and don’t give it another thought. It’s awesome! I have noticed my cramping has been much more mild. I’m not sure if it’s related, but I’ll gladly take it!
